The National Seismic Network stations of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) indicate that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 hit southern Iran on Monday night.
With a depth of ten kilometers, the tremor happened at 8:59 PM local time in Iran. The UAE was not affected by the earthquake, nevertheless, since locals did not record experiencing any vibrations. The NCM verified that the UAE was not affected by the seismic activity, so suggesting that the earthquake was essentially limited to southern Iran.
Another earthquake rocked the same southern area of Iran less than half an hour later, at 9:24 PM UAE time. The NCM's Seismic Network stations indicate that this second earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers, same like the previous one. The second tremor did not seem to have caused any notable damage or endanger the nearby areas. Although southern Iran would have experienced both quakes, there were no immediately recorded reports of significant disturbances or casualties.
The quakes were close to the UAE, but there were no signs that the UAE felt any movement, implying that the earthquake stayed confined in Iran. The NCM's monitoring systems are meant to find seismic activity in the Gulf area and their findings imply that the quakes had no notable impact outside of southern Iran.
Though they could cause disturbance in the impacted area, earthquakes of this kind usually is not catastrophic if they happen at deeper depths as was the case with these quakes, In seismic terms, a depth of 10 kilometers is regarded as somewhat shallow; although such earthquakes can be felt more intensely, their total impact relies on several elements like the population density and infrastructure in the area close to the epicenter.
Iran, which lies on multiple main tectonic fault lines, sees regular seismic activity; the southern portion of the nation is especially prone to earthquakes, The area has gone through several notable earthquakes in the past, which emphasizes the need of keeping an eye on seismic activity in the surroundings. The tracking of seismic activity by the NCM offers essential data not only for the areas immediately hit by such events but also for other areas maybe touched indirectly.
Although the Monday night earthquake in southern Iran was notable, it had little effect on the UAE or caused general damage. The seismic monitoring systems in the area keep tracking such events to guarantee public safety and offer immediate data. Although the UAE remains vulnerable to future seismic events, the timing and depth of the quakes together with the lack of notable consequences on the country show the limited character of the seismic activity.
