Starting from December 20, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a discount in the fee for its bus-on- demand service in the Business Bay district.

Dubai Cut Fare for Business Bay Bus-on- Demand Service

The ticket will now be just Dh2, a notable drop from the former fare of Dh5, so making the service more reasonably priced for travelers, This action is a part of the continuous RTA initiatives to improve Dubai's public transportation choices.

Part of a bigger project aiming at enhancing the city's transportation system and tackling traffic congestion in crowded districts like Business Bay, the bus-on-demand service Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA's Public Transport Agency, claims that the fare cut should help to improve traffic in this crucial area, He also mentioned that the project would help to ease general traffic by offering a substitute for private cars and contributing to more efficient transit.

Service Expansion Scheduling

By the middle of 2025, the RTA also indicated intentions to extend the bus-on-demand service to ten further locations of Dubai. This development is projected to widen the reach of the service and raise its accessibility, therefore giving more people and commuters the choice to use public transit in a more flexible and comfortable way. The RTA will use a fleet of 41 buses to meet the rising demand for this service therefore supporting this development.

Shakri underlined that more people using public transportation is expected from the fare cut and service extension, Particularly in locations where traffic congestion is usually a problem, the relocation seeks to make the bus-on-demand service more appealing to residents and guests looking for a reasonably priced and quick means of city mobility.

Operating via a smartphone app known as the Dubai Bus On- Demand app, the bus-on-demand service lets users quickly and simply reserve rides, By requesting a bus journey inside their selected service area and being picked up at specified sites, users can lessen the need to depend on set itineraries or paths, For individuals with different schedules, this degree of adaptability gives commuters more control over their travel arrangements.

Through the app, passengers can also monitor their travels in real-time so they know where the bus is and when scheduled to arrive, Designed to be easy to use, the app provides both residents' and visitors' flawless booking experience. This integration of technology into public transportation seeks to increase the efficiency of the service, therefore enabling consumers to obtain transportation whenever they so require it.

Effects on Travel and Traffic in Dubai

One of Dubai's most busy and high-traffic areas, Business Bay is likely to benefit from the lowered fee for the bus-on-demand service, Especially during busy times when traffic congestion is at its worst, the service is likely to inspire more people to use public transport by providing a reasonably priced and flexible substitute for private vehicles and conventional bus lines, While simultaneously lessening the load on road networks in crowded metropolitan areas, the RTA seeks to make commuting more ecologically friendly and efficient.

The RTA hopes that when the service grows to other areas of the city in the next years it would help Dubai's public transport system to be generally improved. The aim is to build a more connected and sustainable transportation system fulfilling the demands of an expanding and varied population, The RTA wants to raise public transport's acceptance across the city by offering more flexible, reasonably priced, and convenient transportation choices, so substituting it for driving becomes a realistic alternative.
