The Ports Police Station at Dubai Police carried out a comprehensive field inspection targeting jet ski rental companies operating at Fishing Harbour 3. The campaign aimed to verify compliance with public safety regulations, ensure contractual transparency with renters, and uphold a secure and well-regulated marine environment.
Brigadier Dr. Hassan Suhail Al Suwaidi, Director of the Ports Police Station, stated that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime security and regulate the recreational marine rental sector, ensuring full adherence to safety protocols that safeguard both users and marine operators.
32 Jet Skis Seized and 39 Violations Recorded
The inspection led to the seizure of 32 jet skis due to major mechanical issues or links to previous accidents rendering them unsafe for operation. Additionally, 39 watercraft were fined for safety violations and unauthorized route usage.
Administrative Infractions and Immediate Warnings
According to Brig. Al Suwaidi, several administrative violations were also identified, such as the absence of digital documentation or unclear rental procedures. Immediate warnings were issued, and detailed reports were submitted to licensing authorities for legal follow-up.
Strict Penalties for Non-Compliance
He highlighted that using an unlicensed watercraft incurs a fine of AED 5,000, while operating a watercraft with an expired license results in a AED 1,000 fine. Renting out an unfit watercraft is penalized with AED 5,000, and obstructing or preventing inspectors from performing their duties carries the same fine.
Brig. Al Suwaidi urged all rental offices to conduct regular maintenance checks, enforce safety standards before and after rentals, and ensure rental contracts are clear and compliant. He concluded by wishing safety for all marine users.
