Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, announced that traffic patrols have apprehended several teenagers operating modified electric bikes at speeds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour.

The incidents took place on running and walking tracks in Nad Al Sheba as well as other areas across the emirate. Such behavior poses a significant threat to pedestrians, sports enthusiasts using these paths, and the young riders themselves.

Al Mazrouei clarified that electric bikes designed for leisure or light commuting should not be used on designated sports tracks. He pointed out that some teenagers modify these bicycles to dramatically boost their speed, making them similar to hazardous motorcycles. This practice endangers both the operators and others nearby, violating regulations governing electric bike usage.

In collaboration with partners, Dubai Police organized intensified field campaigns after receiving complaints from community members regarding reckless conduct by minors. During these operations, violators were detained and legal action was initiated against them. Additionally, parents of the youths were summoned to educate them about the dangers of leaving their children unsupervised while using such vehicles.

General Al Mazrouei revealed that the General Department of Traffic impounded 101 electric bikes last week alone in various parts of Dubai due to improper use and high-speed riding in unauthorized locations. A total of 130 violations were recorded during this period. He emphasized that these numbers highlight the serious nature of the issue and underscore the need for increased surveillance as well as community awareness efforts aimed at curbing such behavior.

The Akhbrna News team observed that negligence among certain parents-stemming from inadequate supervision-significantly contributes to the rise of negative behaviors like reckless electric bike riding among teens.
