Dubai Police has announced the expansion of “noise radar” operations across various parts of the emirate, aiming to curb disturbances caused by excessively loud vehicles and motorcycles that disrupt the comfort of Dubai’s residents and visitors.
The force confirmed that this project supports the vision of the UAE’s leadership to make Dubai the world’s most peaceful and refined city.
Officials noted that the coming phase will see a gradual increase in the number of noise radars to ensure wider coverage throughout the emirate.
They added that the initiative stems from the directives of the Steering Committee for Preserving Dubai’s Urban Aesthetics, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance quality of life and maintain public tranquility.
According to Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, the force recently began deploying these radars as part of the intelligent traffic-management technologies it uses.
He stated that the devices have proven effective in detecting modified vehicles or those violating environmental standards.
The system can accurately measure noise levels, identify the source, and document violations on video whenever sound exceeds legal limits. It can also detect improper use of car horns and noise generated by sound systems inside vehicles.
He clarified that violations captured by the radar include:
- Vehicles fitted with parts that create excessive noise,
- Loud sound systems,
- Unnecessary horn usage.
The penalty carries a fine of AED 2,000, along with 12 black points, while vehicle release fees can reach AED 10,000.
Al Mazrouei stressed that the goal of implementing these systems is not to issue fines, but rather to raise awareness about the importance of adopting civil behavior on the roads.
He emphasized that maintaining a quiet environment is a shared societal responsibility that supports residents’ comfort, visitor satisfaction, and Dubai’s ongoing journey toward modern, world-class urban standards.
He further confirmed that Dubai Police will continue monitoring noise-causing vehicles through traffic patrols, smart systems, and large-scale awareness campaigns designed to educate the public about the dangers of noise pollution and its impact on public health and community wellbeing.
The Steering Committee for Preserving Dubai’s Urban Aesthetics represents a continuation of Dubai’s long-standing commitment to development and refinement.
It reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in establishing a modern, world-leading urban experience.
The committee was formed based on his directives to ensure Dubai remains the best, most beautiful, and most advanced city globally.
On September 26, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Chairman of the Executive Council, issued a decision formally establishing the committee as an integrated framework dedicated to preserving, measuring, and enhancing Dubai’s unique urban identity-strengthening the emirate’s position as one of the world’s cleanest, most organized, and most elegant cities.
