Dubai introduces new air-conditioned rest areas for motorcycle delivery drivers along with free meals provided by Emirates Food Bank.
In a move aimed at enhancing road safety and improving the quality of life, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has dedicated 15 new air-conditioned rest areas for delivery motorcycle drivers. These shelters are strategically located at key bus and metro stations across the emirate, aligning with efforts to implement measures protecting workers from performing tasks under direct sunlight during midday hours. This initiative, running daily from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM until September 15th, seeks to bolster safety for these essential workers.
This latest effort follows the prior establishment of 40 air-conditioned rest spots catering to delivery cyclists across important city zones. The design of these shelters ensures they minimize heat exposure while maintaining visibility, complemented by features like water dispensers, phone charging areas, and ample parking for motorcycles. Such amenities aim to enhance driver comfort, increase their compliance with traffic regulations, and promote overall well-being.
The temporary rest areas are further supported by around 7,500 meals supplied by Emirates Food Bank in collaboration with Deliveroo. This gesture acknowledges the daily contributions of delivery drivers who play a critical role in supporting Dubai’s economy amidst growing demand in the delivery sector.
The new rest facilities have been constructed at several bus stations including Gold Souk, Al Satwa, Al Jafiliya, Oud Metha; along with metro station exits such as E & I Exit 1, Al Qusais Exit 1 & 2, Emirates Towers Exit 1 among others like Business Bay Exit 2 and BurJuman Exit 4.
The Roads and Transport Authority emphasizes its commitment to creating a safe working environment that supports delivery riders given the sector's rapid expansion in recent years catering to public needs.
Comprehensive operational frameworks have been implemented by the authority ensuring service excellence within this sector through updated activity guidelines and initiatives targeting performance indicators related specifically to deliveries.
This program aims not only at supporting drivers-integral pillars within logistics-but also raises social awareness regarding their importance while reducing food waste through strategic surplus redistribution. It represents part of a broader strategy fostering sustainability alongside private partnerships.
Emirates Food Bank exemplifies UAE's humanitarian ethos instilled by wise leadership prioritizing charity as core to sustainable development. Believing food provision isn't solely charitable but a duty reflecting national values of generosity and unity is central in their mission."
