Dubai's 'A Day Without Accidents' incentivizes safe driving as schools reopen. Drivers can deduct four black points if they avoid violations on August 25.
As the summer holidays draw to a close, schools across the UAE are gearing up to welcome students back. Coinciding with this busy period is an important initiative from the Ministry of Interior (MOI), which has designated August 25, 2025, as "A Day Without Accidents."
Recognizing that road traffic typically spikes as families return home and settle into new routines, this annual event aims to instill safe driving habits during one of the most congested times on UAE roads.
This campaign is conducted in partnership with police departments nationwide and highlights the significance of road safety. The Ministry announced this initiative through its official X account (formerly Twitter), reinforcing its commitment to reducing accidents.
To further encourage motorists to drive responsibly, the ministry has introduced an enticing incentive: drivers who pledge to adhere to traffic regulations on August 25 and succeed in avoiding any violations will receive a deduction of four black points from their driving license.
Participants must complete a pledge form on the MOI website prior to the date. If successful, their black points will be deducted automatically by September 15 without needing a visit to service centers-demonstrating an efficient digital approach.
The Role of AI in Traffic Enforcement
This year has also seen advancements in Dubai’s use of technology for enforcing traffic laws. In March 2025, Dubai Police unveiled statistics on infractions captured by AI-equipped smart radars and surveillance systems.
This update was provided by the General Department of Traffic, illustrating how artificial intelligence increasingly supports law enforcement efforts.
Exceeding speed limits by over 80 km/h incurs severe penalties including a Dhs3,000 fine, impoundment for 60 days, and accumulation of 23 black points.
Lesser speeding offenses still result in fines ranging from Dhs300 to Dhs1,000 depending on how much over the limit they were recorded.
A Wide Range of Monitored Offenses
Beyond speeding violations include running red lights, using mobile phones while driving, or failing to yield right-of-way-and they carry hefty penalties:
Running a red light attracts fines up to Dhs1,000 plus vehicle impoundment alongside earning multiple black points for repeat offenders.
A Call for Responsible Driving
The beginning of each school year marks increased commuting involving parents dropping off children along with school buses navigating streets bustling full carpool loads daily-therefore adhering strictly towards creating hazard-free zones cannot be overstated enough encouraging all drivers exercise utmost caution at all times ensuring everyone’s safety journey travels smoothly keeping tragedy bay whilst showcasing true community spirit respecting dignity others sharing these routes together harmoniously alike every day thereafter throughout rest academic session too!
