Dubai has launched the App Olympics, an international initiative designed to recognize excellence in mobile application development. This announcement was made by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense of the UAE, on Sunday.
Approved for participants of all ages from all around the globe, the App Olympics presents four separate prize categories: Best Youth App, Most Impactful App, Most Innovative App, and Industry of the Year for Mobile Gaming. Especially, this year's edition highlights the mobile gaming sector, thereby underlining Dubai's dedication to leverage new trends in digital sectors.
Participants may register between October 13 and November 13, 2024, Prize winners will be given a variety of awards, including digital service bundles worth $150,000 (about Dh550,000) and financial incentives meant to help their apps grow going forward, They will also get access to a six-month mentoring program, media coverage, and the possibility to network with a large number of tech ecosystem partners.
Dubai's greater plan to establish itself as a worldwide leader in innovative technology and digital innovation includes the App Olympics. Driven by the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy as a continuation of the Create Apps in Dubai program, which aims to draw worldwide digital pioneers into Dubai's fast growing tech scene, this project by Sheikh Hamdan underlined that innovation will always be fundamental for the emirate's future development and that this competitiveness fits Dubai's ambition of being a major participant in the digital economy.
The App Olympics also aim more broadly in encouraging local talent. Through the Emirati Training Academy, the competition aims to teach over 1,000 Emiratis business models, coding, and app development. The project is to increase the number of app developers in Dubai by 2025 and assist in the development of 100 new national initiatives aiming at the generation of innovative mobile apps.

The "Why Dubai" site also provides resources for app developers, including learning modules, community check-ins, and masterclasses, so illuminating the digital economy of Dubai and highlighting the success stories of the city. Moreover, the Olympian Mindset online training course is meant to inspire creative thinking and available to all learners. This class will walk participants through the process of creating app prototypes and getting ready for success in the fast-changing field of mobile app development.
