Dubai Municipality has issued warnings to several engineering consultancy offices following the discovery of inflated structural designs in citizens’ villas, which have been deemed unnecessary and costly.
These practices were found to violate the Dubai Building Code, resulting in increased construction expenses without a justified engineering rationale.
This action underscores the Municipality’s dedication to regulating the construction sector and ensuring all projects comply with established standards.
Dubai's Stance on Construction Costs
Earlier circulars sent by the Municipality demanded strict adherence from all consultancy offices within the emirate to follow the Dubai Building Code and approved engineering requirements. The initiative aims to ensure structural efficiency while eliminating unjustified design inflation, thereby easing financial pressures on property owners and upholding stakeholder rights.
Maryam Al Muhairi, CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency at Dubai Municipality, stated: “Compliance with the Dubai Building Code is both a professional duty and an ethical obligation.
It strives for a balance between construction quality and reduced costs. We are committed to overseeing consultancy offices' practices to confirm they meet approved standards, avoiding excessive use of materials like steel, and protecting citizens from unwarranted additional charges.”
The Municipality stressed that repeated violations could impact an office's annual evaluation negatively and may lead to disciplinary actions as per current laws and regulations. Earlier this year, two engineering consultancies faced suspension along with a six-month ban from licensing new projects after being found guilty of breaching regulations and professional ethics - conduct detrimental to property owners and developers alike.
By emphasizing compliance with the Dubai Building Code, Akhbrna News reports that Dubai Municipality continues its efforts to bolster competitiveness within the emirate’s construction sector while curbing unnecessary expenditure.
