Dubai Airports has unveiled an ambitious decade-long strategy aimed at transforming Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC) into the most accessible airports globally by 2035. This initiative underscores a commitment to inclusivity and sets a precedent in creating seamless travel experiences for all.

The strategic plan focuses on strengthening foundational elements, enhancing guest experiences at every touchpoint, and positioning DXB and DWC as pioneers in inclusive travel. By aligning with international best practices and supporting the UAE's dedication to the rights of People of Determination (PoD), the strategy also complements Dubai’s vision of becoming a disability-friendly city.

Transforming Accessibility in Air Travel

"Our commitment to accessibility is more than just words; it represents a fundamental aspect of our mission to provide exceptional travel experiences for every guest," said Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports. "Through collaboration with partners and meaningful engagement with the People of Determination community, we aim to revolutionize the airport experience while setting new global standards."

The forthcoming phase introduces a public awareness campaign co-created with People of Determination, supported by oneDXB partners. The "DXB for All" campaign highlights six personal narratives illustrating PoD navigating DXB’s bustling environment-from a child managing sensory sensitivities during terminal passage alongside his mother, to how staff communicate using sign language with deaf guests, and offering tactile guidance to visually impaired visitors.

This initiative builds upon "We All Meet the World Differently," launched in 2022, stressing that accessibility transcends physical infrastructure by advocating cultural transformation focused on empathy. It encourages employees, travelers, and the public alike to embrace diverse perspectives.

Majed Al Joker emphasized that collaborating with PoD ensures their insights influence how airports are designed and operated. Notable advocates featured include Emirati accessibility leader Fatma Al Jassim, former Paralympic swimmer Jessica Smith specializing in disability inclusion consulting, Yasmin Carey-a Dubai-based mother guiding her autistic son Ellis-and others like Layth Kamal living with autism and ADHD.

This strategic direction is a collective effort involving key stakeholders across Dubai’s aviation sector-partners such as Emirates, flydubai, Dubai Police among others-ensuring an enriching journey for each passenger.

Dubai Airports offers comprehensive support services catering to visible or hidden needs including an online visual guide named Travel Planner for preparatory assistance; the Sunflower Lanyard identifies those requiring priority lanes or autism-friendly routes discreetly.

A host of amenities are available: complimentary two-hour parking facilities; wheelchair services; hearing loops installed at over 520 points; plus access to Terminal 2’s Assisted Travel Lounge.
