An unexpected bee attack in Aurillac injured 24 people; three are critically hurt.

An unexpected and intense bee attack has caused turmoil in the town of Aurillac, France, resulting in injuries to 24 individuals. Of these victims, three have been critically harmed, according to statements from local officials.

The Cantal Prefecture reported that the incident occurred on a tranquil Sunday morning and lasted approximately half an hour. During this time, unsuspecting passersby found themselves under siege by swarming bees. Emergency services, including firefighters and medical teams, promptly responded to the crisis scene. Meanwhile, law enforcement established a safety perimeter until the bees ceased their aggressive behavior.

Those critically injured were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.

Pierre Mathonier, Aurillac's mayor, provided insight into what might have provoked the bees' aggression. He explained on the French channel France 3 that Asian hornets possibly threatened beehives situated atop a downtown hotel for over ten years. This perceived threat likely incited the bees' unusual hostility.

"Fortunately," Mathonier remarked with relief, "the emergency response was well-coordinated and efficient." He added that despite the alarming situation, "Aurillac remained calm overall; however, many people did suffer stings."
