The next holiday in the Emirate of Dubai has been officially announced for the Prophet's birthday, with Friday, September 5, 2025, designated as an official holiday for the private sector.
This announcement by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation came just hours after the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirmed the public sector holiday.
Workers in Dubai will enjoy a long, three-day weekend, which coincides with Saturday and Sunday, which are considered weekly holidays for most employees in the emirate.
The confirmation of the holiday date follows the sighting of the crescent moon for Rabi' al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar.
In a statement posted on the Ministry's official Instagram account, it confirmed that Friday, September 5, will be an official paid holiday for the private sector, marking the Prophet's birthday.
The Ministry also extended its congratulations and best wishes to the wise leadership and the people and residents of the UAE on this blessed occasion.
The Prophet's birthday holiday is one of the four official holidays in the UAE, the dates of which are determined according to the Islamic calendar.
This lunar calendar is used globally by Muslims to determine the dates of religious events and rituals, which results in their dates changing annually compared to the Gregorian calendar.
It should be noted that the Hijri year is approximately 10 to 12 days shorter than the Gregorian year.
The length of the Hijri month ranges between 29 and 30 days, depending on the moon's sighting.
The length of the lunar year is approximately 354 or 355 days, which explains the variation in the dates of Islamic events from year to year according to the Gregorian calendar.
