Worker protection programs in the UAE have improved significantly, according to new data released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization. These figures highlight substantial improvements in financial support, housing standards, and workplace safety.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization reported significant progress in the country's worker protection systems, impacting millions of private sector workers.
According to the official statement issued by the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization, 88.38% of eligible private sector employees are now covered by the Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) scheme.
Since its official launch in January 2023, the scheme has provided financial assistance to over 17,758 workers during periods of unemployment, ensuring their continued support until they find new employment.
Statistics also showed that over the past five years, more than 32,000 workers have benefited from the broader Workers Protection Program, receiving compensation for unpaid wages, outstanding end-of-service benefits, and various other legal entitlements.
The Ministry confirmed that the average compensation per worker exceeded AED 9,000, reaching as high as AED 20,000 for some individuals. In total, the total amount disbursed to workers during this period exceeded AED 289 million.
The relevant authorities reported that more than 2,500 companies have registered with the Workers' Accommodation Compliance System, which guides employers in meeting appropriate worker housing standards.
These standards include adequate facilities, clean living conditions, access to safe drinking water, good ventilation, and reliable cooling systems.
The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization also clarified that approximately 1.9 million workers currently reside in accommodations that meet the highest standards of safety, health, and comfort.
However, inspections conducted between January and June 2025 resulted in 292 violations related to inadequate living conditions. The Ministry emphasized the need for all workers' accommodations to comply with stringent requirements, including health, hygiene, ventilation, security, and basic facilities.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization also affirmed that the UAE's ongoing efforts to promote workers' rights are underpinned by the Workers' Protection Program, which now protects approximately 99% of the workforce across various economic sectors.
This program ensures the protection of workers' financial entitlements-including unpaid wages-through an integrated system designed to provide stability, fairness, and a dignified working environment.
It is worth noting that these comprehensive reforms are highly aligned with the UAE's broader vision of building a sustainable labor market that balances rights and responsibilities, enhances the country's economic competitiveness, and guarantees a safe, supportive, and fair environment for millions of workers nationwide.
