The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security in the United Arab Emirates announced the implementation of an innovative project that provides a "smart, integrated and unified journey" for renewing passports and Emirates identity cards for citizens of the United Arab Emirates.

This initiative comes within the framework of the Authority’s strategic plan as part of the second phase of the “Eliminating Bureaucracy” program, which aims to simplify government procedures and improve customer experience in various public services.
The new system represents a significant step forward in the country’s digital transformation strategy, as it brings multiple processes into a single, streamlined service path. By integrating passport and ID renewal into one smart journey, the Authority ensures that citizens can complete their applications more efficiently, using advanced digital solutions designed to reduce complexity and processing time.

According to the Authority’s official digital platform, the project offers several key advantages, including a unified renewal process, a proactive service model, and a single smart screen for updating personal data and photos. This system eliminates the need to repeatedly upload documents or re-enter the same information, significantly reducing duplication and minimizing potential errors.

The Authority also confirmed that the new project will reduce processing time by at least 50% compared to previous procedures. In addition, it is expected to lower the volume of inquiries and phone calls by up to 40%, reflecting the clarity and simplicity of the revamped service journey.

Furthermore, the Authority clarified that if a citizen applies to renew an expired passport while their Emirates ID is set to expire within less than six months, both documents can be renewed together through a single application. This integrated approach eliminates the need for multiple requests and contributes to a smoother, faster, and more user-friendly experience.
