Informed sources at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation revealed that the number of beneficiaries of the unemployment insurance system, which came into effect in early January 2024, exceeded 17,000 employees of various nationalities working in the country.
The value of compensation disbursed by the end of April 2025 amounted to approximately AED 180 million.
The sources confirmed that His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Manan Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, explained in a written response to a parliamentary question during the tenth session of the second ordinary session of the Federal National Council, that the ministry has adopted a comprehensive awareness plan targeting private sector workers, particularly Emirati cadres. The plan includes introductory workshops, visual and audio media channels, in addition to social media and text message campaigns. Approximately 60 million text messages have been sent to explain the mechanisms for subscription and payment of premiums. The Ministry's teams also conducted field visits to a number of establishments to encourage employees to register in the system. A call center was also established at 600599555 to answer inquiries and provide technical support to customers. The information also indicated that the Ministry has updated its notification system for subscription payment and renewal, so that employees are notified via text messages and email before, during, and after the expiration of subscription documents. The user journey has also been enhanced when requesting compensation. Requests can be submitted electronically or via the smart application and call center without the need to attach documents, unless the employee so desires.
