On Saturday, January 4, an afternoon fire started close to The Zoo Wildlife Park in Umm Al Quwain. Soon after 3 p.m., the incident sent thick black smoke skyward. Although the precise site of the fire was unknown, witnesses said it began outside the zoo grounds.

Although there were some preventative actions taken in the park due to strong smoke, operations went without any significant disturbance.

Unaiza, a resident of Dubai, told the story while she was weekend park visitor. She pointed out that certain animals, especially horses, seemed agitated by the smoke, so a small portion of the zoo was momentarily under quarantine. Still, the zoo stayed open to the public and the visitors were not immediately under danger. Unaiza also noted that teams in emergency response arrived fast to contain the fire and stop it from spreading.

Arriving at the scene, fire engines and civil defense agents were quick to put out the fire. Their quick reaction helped to prevent the issue from getting worse and no records of damage to the infrastructure of the zoo surfaced. Though black smoke was clearly visible, the fire did not seem to affect the park's usual operations.
