Saudi Arabia showcases over 122,000 tons of high-quality domestic grapes this summer season.
This summer, Saudi Arabian markets are awash with the vibrant hues and enticing aromas of locally cultivated grapes. These homegrown fruits have become a highlight for consumers, significantly outshining their imported counterparts in terms of quality and popularity.
Annually, Saudi Arabia produces an impressive 122,300 tons of grapes, ensuring that markets across the nation are well-supplied to meet consumer demands. Renowned for their rich nutritional content and delightful taste, these grapes also hold substantial value in various food processing sectors.
The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture attributes this thriving grape cultivation to robust government support alongside the integration of advanced agricultural techniques and best farming practices. The ministry acknowledges the rapid growth witnessed across key regions including Tabuk, Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf, Madinah, Asir, and Taif.
Among the favored local grape varieties are Taifi, Halawani, Banati, Early Sweet, Crimson Seedless, Thompson Seedless, and Superior-each cherished for its exceptional quality and high market demand. These diverse types not only bolster consumption but also drive multiple industries like juice production, ice cream creation, and confectionery manufacturing. This multifaceted use reinforces national food security while invigorating the Kingdom's economy.
Further supporting agricultural advancement within Saudi Arabia is a strong commitment from the ministry to uplift farmers based on their crop’s comparative advantage by offering technical guidance as well as financial assistance. Moreover, there is an encouragement towards adopting modern agricultural technologies aimed at enhancing productivity and fostering self-reliance in food production.
