Qatar Airways Cargo, IAG Cargo, and MASkargo are moving towards launching a joint global cargo business, aiming for a formal launch by 2025, subject to regulatory approval. The alliance promises new trade routes and enhanced capacity across continents.

Qatar Airways Cargo, IAG Cargo, and MAB Kargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo) are advancing plans to launch their Global Cargo Joint Business. Initially announced in April, the partnership now targets a formal launch in late 2025, pending regulatory approvals. This development was announced by the trio at a press conference during the Air Cargo Europe event in Munich.

New Air Cargo Alliance

The collaboration brings together the significant strengths of Qatar Airways Cargo; IAG Cargo, formed from the merger of British Airways World Cargo and Iberia Cargo; and MASkargo, the logistics branch of Malaysian Airlines.

The Global Cargo Joint Business aims to open new trade opportunities globally, with a focus on enhancing routing flexibility and capacity. The alliance will connect regions including APAC, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, Europe, and the Americas with new routes previously unavailable through a single booking. Initially targeting key cargo markets, the plan includes expanding to additional countries in later stages.

The three carriers will progressively align systems, processes, and commercial offerings to ensure a seamless rollout for customers. This will include streamlined products and services, improved digital solutions, and a combined Avios loyalty proposition.

The venture will optimize freighter and belly hold capacity across their networks, aiming to enhance efficiency and flexibility for customers, supported by a coordinated system for ground handling and trucking.

Additionally, the partners announced forthcoming individual agreements with the UN World Food Programme (WFP), committing to provide 1,000 tonnes of free tonnage to aid in delivering essential food supplies and commodities.

Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways Cargo, expressed enthusiasm: “We are thrilled about this groundbreaking partnership, which will deliver unparalleled service and efficiency in air cargo solutions. Moreover, this collaboration will support the World Food Programme, showcasing the power of partnership.”

David Shepherd, CEO of IAG Cargo, stated: “This joint business is a step change for our customers. By creating a single network, we are unlocking new commercial opportunities with a network more efficient than traditional interline agreements.”

MASkargo CEO, Mark Jason Thomas, remarked: “This partnership is a milestone for MASkargo and the cargo industry. It transforms cargo movement worldwide, extending our reach across continents and delivering greater value and efficiency.”

Virginia Villar Arribas, WFP’s Deputy Director for Private Sector Partnerships, thanked the partners, highlighting the collaboration's role in accelerating humanitarian responses.
