Saudi Aramco Unveils Fisheries Development Center in Jubail

Saudi Aramco has opened the Regional Center for Sustainable Development of Fisheries in Jubail, partnering with government ministries to bolster local fisheries, enhance marine biodiversity, and support economic growth.
Saudi Aramco has inaugurated the Regional Center for Sustainable Development of Fisheries on Abu Ali Island in Jubail along the Arabian Gulf coast. This initiative is in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture.
The center aims to showcase Saudi Aramco's commitment to community-oriented investments, bolster economic growth, and support local fishermen. Key objectives include enhancing local fisheries' production capabilities and promoting competitiveness on a global scale.
The center is integral to Aramco's efforts in conserving marine biodiversity in the Arabian Gulf. It includes a fish hatchery on Abu Ali Island to replenish local fish populations adversely affected by fishing practices.
Operations at the center cover the fish lifecycle, from egg production to larval rearing and eventually releasing juvenile fish into the Gulf. The hatchery utilizes advanced technologies for aquaculture and water recycling to fulfill the company’s sustainability goals.
This project supports Aramco's broader environmental efforts, including its mangrove plantation initiative, which has seen the planting of over 43 million mangroves to date, providing crucial habitats for marine juveniles.
Salem Al-Huraish, Senior Vice President of Community Services at Aramco, stated, "The center promotes local economies by ensuring sustainable and responsible practices and enhancing marine ecosystem health. It reflects Aramco’s dedication to sustainability and biodiversity."
Al-Huraish believes the center will greatly contribute to the Gulf's ecosystem while aligning with the nation’s aquaculture vision, serving as a model of economic and biodiversity synergy.
