Dubai Municipality Completes $66 Million Green Space Enhancement Projects

In order to improve the ecological sustainability of Dubai, Municipality lately finished seven beautifying projects along Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail roads.

Under instructions from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, this AED 245 million project was executed in continuous attempts to support urban greening and aesthetic appeal. Supported by sophisticated irrigation systems meant for effective water use, the 1.4 million square meter initiative included planting 2.5 million flowers, ornamental plants, and 6,500 trees.

Director General of Dubai Municipality Dawoud Al Hajri pointed out that these projects closely complement the goals of the "Green Dubai Project," an effort aimed at growing Dubai's sustainable urban infrastructure and green areas, Al Hajri underlined the city's dedication to environmentally conscious development according to a statement made by the Dubai Media Office (DMO), saying, "At Dubai Municipality, we are committed to expanding Dubai's greenery by integrated projects and innovative practices that enhance the city's appeal and distinctive aesthetic, so reinforcing its reputation as a global leader in sustainability and excellence."

By establishing green, friendly areas in important areas of the city, the beautification projects aimed not only at enhancing the quality of life for inhabitants and visitors but also at beautifying main roadways. Al Hajri underlined the initiatives of Dubai Municipality to create green infrastructure, therefore fostering environmental sustainability and a good and pleasant surroundings for the people. He also clarified that the city wants to maximize its natural resources by means of intelligent irrigation technologies that help to achieve general sustainability objectives by saving water.

Covering a vast 843,000 square meter area with four main intersections Al Yelayes Street and Al Jameel Street among others the work along Sheikh Zayed Road Dubai Municipality has planted 1.5 million flower and plant seedlings, placed 3,500 trees, and mulched 290,000 square meters of soil to enhance plant health and stop soil erosion alone in this region, Together, these trees, flowering plants, and improved soil help to support biodiversity by building a more strong green infrastructure, therefore enhancing the visual appeal of Sheikh Zayed Road.

Likewise, three significant developments along Al Khail Road cover 625,000 square meters and have crossings with Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, and Umm Suqeim Street. Reinforcing the vegetation and resilience of these regions, the work along this path included planting 1 million flower and plant seedlings, 3,000 trees, and 143,654 square meters of soil mulch, This method emphasizes Dubai Municipality's focus on environmentally friendly urban landscaping techniques, which combine design with utility to satisfy objectives.

Apart from these initiatives, Dubai Municipality has started a general urban greening campaign around the city, The municipality averaged 500,000 new trees daily in 2023 alone, having planted over 185,000 trees total. Dubai's greener landscape from 170 hectares in 2022 to 234 hectares in 2023 has been greatly enlarged by this constant dedication to creating green space, therefore supporting the environmental objectives of the city.
